Oh my I’m tired!
So, like most everyone else, school is out tomorrow! I don’t know why I get so excited, I don’t have school aged children. But I have friends who are teachers and I have lots of little school aged buddies, so I guess I just get excited for them. (How many times can one type “I” in a sentence? Geez.)
We had our cute little friend Owen over today. Like, all day long. He came over at 7am. (That’s right, AM.) See, I’m a stay at home mom. And I’ve very carefully trained my children to sleep until 8am. Because I am not a morning person. I never have been and I probably never will be. If I could sleep until 10am every morning, I would probably be a very, very happy camper. But alas, these darn kids. Messing up my laying around time. Anyways, so Owen came over at 7am. I set my alarm clock for 6:45 so I could make a pot of coffee and brush my teeth. The two most important things, of course. He came over and we hung out with J until Big Sister woke up and J left for work. Oh man. We had some fun today. And I will tell you - my bones hurt - that’s how much fun we had.

First, we filled a million water balloons. Originally I thought we could have a tossing game. But yeah, two year olds. Not really good at the throwing and tossing and catching thing.

See what I mean? Big Sister is about to let Owen have it.

But then she decided to be nice.

Then, after Little Sister finally woke up, ate, had her diaper and clothes changed, we decided to go to the “Rock Jungle” at the park next door. So, off in our sit & stand stroller (which I LOVE by the way). Big Sister and Owen shared the little bench in the back.

They climbed rocks for an hour. AN HOUR. That’s a very long time to be hanging out watching little kids play on rocks. And we only had two cries and scrapped knees. Pretty good in my book.

Little Sister loved every single minute of it! And being all crusted with snot. Awesome parenting tip # 1 - bring tissues to the park in the spring when everyone has springy-snotty-cold-allergies (and yes, that’s the official name for it).

On the way back to the house, the little ones ran around more! Man, don’t you know how tired they must have been??

Not very tired at all. Because even after begging, pleading, bribing, threatening (I kid), these two did not want to sleep. Seriously. They were so tired and a little whiny, but they just would not rest. And I didn’t even give them sugar!

So, we painted flower pots to grow Zinnias in. Oh how I love me some zinnias.

Doesn’t he just look exhausted? Yet, no nap.
Oh well, here’s wishing Owen & Big Sister sweet, long dreams tonight!
In other news. We’re finally getting Little Sister to sleep in her bed. She’s been in the bed with us for almost 8 months and it’s about time that J and I get a little alone time. That’s all I’m saying.
So prayers that she’ll sleep in her crib. She hasn’t even napped in there in 8 months. But she’s crawling - that’s right crawling, so it’s just too dangerous for her to continue to sleep with us on the bed.
And I think I hear J snoring on the monitor…
‘Night y’all.
edit- 11:11pm and Little Sister has yet to actually sleep in her bed. We’ve been at this since 8pm. And we’re both pretty darn exhausted. She’s slept in both of our arms, in my lap, on J’s chest, but not in her bed. I think we’re only minutes from giving up. I’m sure we’ll all have a long day tomorrow…

Awww those are great pics!
My little one just moved to her own bed and she is SIXTEEN months!!! I was so ready to kick her out of my room! She goes to sleep without a peep now, but she wakes up in the middle of the night and won’t go back to bed! It is frustrating, but at least I have my bed back part of the time!!! Good luck!

I love it when you can tire your kids out all day and then they just knock off to sleep with no problems. They look like they had a blast, even just climbing on rocks. (not my idea of fun, but definitely theirs)

It looks like y’all had a fun day! Owen is getting so big! Ava really enjoyed playing with him, and big sister too (when we lived there)! Great pictures, too. Aren’t outdoor pictures just the best? No lighting worries and almost always about something fun.

Hi,
I’m Audrey. I found your blog through the mommyfest site. Even though the blog party is long over, I’m still loving reading blogs and meeting others.
Photos are GREAT. We are such opposites. I love mornings. I’m up before 5a.m. every day. I just love my mornings before the girls get up.

I don’t know whether to say you’re lucky or crazy. It’s not possible to teach my child to sleep until 8. Sleeping in is 7 for her and usually she doesn’t get too far past 6. Maybe 5:30. Try as we may, we can’t change the fact that she’s a morning person. So I’ve been an involuntary morning person for two years, eight months, and 21 days… Enjoy your rest!
