Three Reasons Why I’m Not the World’s Worst Mom
Because it’s been an oh-so-awesome Mommy Weekend, I wanted to give myself a list to refer to when I’m having a “screamy mommy” day and I feel as though I am doomed for Nanny 911 or the Dr. Phil show.
1. My kids are sweet. Truly sweet natured kids. I don’t think they get it from me, probably their dad. But seriously, they are a joy to be around. Big Sister has been singing everything she says lately. It’s fun. She likes to sing to her Little Sister and most of her songs are as follows, “I’m singing to my baby” (she then bends over so her head is touching the ground) “I’m singing to my baby on my head. I lubs my baby sister. My baby sister lubs me too. I lub mommy I lub daddy. I lub my party snacks.” That’s pretty much it. And I like to think that I might possibly have a little to do with the nature of my children. Maybe?
2. Big Sister eats broccoli. Sure, this may only last a few more weeks. But she loves broccoli. She likes it raw with ranch dressing. She would prefer to eat that over chips or crackers or cookies. And I kind of feel like a superior mother because of that. Of course now that I think that, she will go back to only wanting to eat hot dogs and ketchup with chips-party chips.
3. I’m never too set in my ways when it comes to parenting. I will always have room for improvement and I will never stop reading things that I believe will help in making me a better parent to my children. We have found things that have worked for Big Sister that do not work for Little Sister (like, ya know, sleeping). Big Sister had all sorts of issues breastfeeding at the beginning. Little Sister did not (I think because for one, I knew what in the world I was doing and two, because she didn’t have jaundice). I am proud of J and I and our ability to try new things, not to take others’ advice too freely without checking out ourselves. I’m proud that we’re both very active in doing what’s best for our children (like breastfeeding, delaying solids until atleast 6 months, me staying home with the wild banshee’s, etc). I’m delighted to know that we are doing the best that we can and I feel satisfied with what our best is.
So yeah. I’m doing a pretty good darn job raising these little turkeys. They are cute and sweet. And just look at that little 8 month old (seriously, she’s eight months old today!), she’s perfectly content (because she’s sleeping in my arms).
Motherhood is being pretty awesome to me lately. So, pray that I don’t get bit by the baby bug anytime soon!
