Ragamuffin Top - Week One

Remember the other month(s) that I’ve tried to lose weight? Well, here’s the deal. I just know my thyroid is broken. I just know it. But my blood work came back normal. Although they only do one kind of thyroid test and there are several that need to be done with trying to diagnose a thyroid problem (all this I didn’t know, until last week when I spent $155 to get my hair cut and colored- I kid you not people, I almost peed my pants when she told me how much it was! I was reading a magazine about thyroid issues and weight loss and all that stuff). So, there’s a thyroid diet out there that I may check out to see if that will help. I’m also going back to my Primary Care doctor (instead of my OB/GYN) to see if she’ll run more blood work (that our insurance does not cover) to see if my thyroid is broken or if I’m just doomed with chub for the rest of my life.

So. Here are my goals for what will be my first week. June 23- June 29

1. Run with J every night. See, J bought a used double jogging stroller at a yard sale down the street on Saturday. He paid $25.00 for a stroller that is two years old and about $200.00. Good job, J!

2. Eat better. Cutting out ALL softdrinks except for ONE fountain drink during the week if we go out to eat (On Sunday’s for lunch only).

And now for the most emberassing part. No, I guess the most embaressing part would be taking a picture in a bathing suit or something, but fear not, dear readers, I would never do something to cause permanent damage.

oh my lard!

Okay, it’s Sunday night, I have the big weigh in tomorrow morning. But I wanted to tell you how I did this week.

1. I ran once with my husband. And I’m not really sure what I did really counts as running or not. I huffed and I puffed and sweated and looked like a huge dork… but I did it. Only one time. So, I fail.

2. I ate pretty good, if you don’t count the mexican Saturday night and the pizza for lunch today. I did pretty good with my soft drinks. I did have some Pepsi today with my pizza, because that’s a must.

Alright, the weigh in:

183.8

Almost two pounds. Wow. That’s not very good. Not very encouraging.

But, that is with out doing anything healthy for me. Just think what I could do if I actually tried?

I think 2 pounds in a week is a great start! I applaud you for getting out for even one run (I HATE running) and eating healthier. Even just walking a mile or two every night would be better than no exercise. I have a family member that lost over 30 pounds in a few months just by walking every day!

Keep up the good work! It will happen if you keep at it :-)

You have done a great job. Losing weight sucks and it is so hard. But you are so strong and I know you can overcome this. Steph and I may start walking at night so maybe we can swing by and pick you up!!!! fun huh?? You can do this! Stay strong!

Jill, honey, don’t be so hard on yourself. Two pounds a week is great! It’s actually the ideal amount recommended by doctors for permanent weight loss. Just think… two pounds a week is more than eight pounds a month and 52 pounds in six months! Medically speaking, faster weight loss tends to be temporary. You are doing this the healthy way! Keep up the good work and celebrate your first week of victory!

Two pounds is a good start. But, I had the same experiences with non-weight loss after I had my second daughter. My OBGYN checked my blood levels and I ended up having a thyroid issue. After suffering with the problem, going through more blood tests, a thyroid scan, and internist visits, there were no conclusions. Several months later, I went to an endocrinologist who confirmed that my thyroid had corrected itself after a year of problems. He said sometimes these things happen. I know that it was God. So, hang in there girl.

Two pounds is great Jill! It will take a while, but it will stay off in the long run. Keep working at it and you will start seeing the results you want.

  7. Mandy

Congrats to you! Two pounds is better than nothing and it’s a great start!

2lbs is great!!!! The slower is comes off the less easy it will be to put it back in, and it means you’re doing it right!!! Just drink lots of water and be more active than ever, even in the littlest of ways. You can do it. I have been working hard at it since March 24th and lost my 10 lbs but it is hard at times. I struggle but it’s a lifestyle change, not a diet!!!! You can do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just visualize yourself the way you would like to be and go for it!!!!!

Ugh, I too have been humiliating myself every Tuesday with an update on my Slim in 6 workout. I even posted pictures of myself. In workout clothes, not a bathing suit but it was still humiliating. My results have also not been great. I do think that 2 pounds in one week is great. I am happy to continue to hear your positive results!! Good luck!
