I don’t want to homeschool.
But I guess I’m finally coming to the realization that I was MADE to homeschool. Atleast these precious first 5 years before I send my tiny babies off into their big-girl world of school.
Right now, Big Sister is enjoying 14 hours a week at pre-school. She loves it! She is learning and becoming such a a smart little girl!
And,I guess, that singing our ABC’s and counting every day just isn’t enough. Her little brain is soaking up EVERYTHING (the good and the bad). And it’s my job to start imprinting life lessons and God’s Word and just plain old preschool material on her heart and mind.
So, tell me, old wise interenets. Point me to where I need to go. Homeschooling is what all Stay at Home Parents do. Atleast for the first five years.
Do you homeschool? What material do you use? What do I need to do to prepare our home? Wht do I need to do to prepare myself??

I’ve homeschooled 4 boys since they were all babies. My oldest in now 10 in 5th grade. We use all sorts of different curriculum which I have found mostly by recommendations from my sisters and friends who also homeschool. I change it up a bit each year. I use the readers and read alouds from Sonlight. I trust them and know they always have a great selection of books. I also use their Science this year. It sounds like you have very young ones. I would recommend you focus on reading to them, helping with alphabet sounds (as opposed to alphabet letter names), and counting. There are many many different things available! Find what interests YOU so it’s fun to teach. I also love manipulatives for the younger ones. (magnets, clay etc.. good for counting and learning how things work). Most of all, read to them!
Bless you as you begin! Find a homeschool co-op to support you!

I do not have children old enough for school yet but I was home schooled. It is also full of the good and the bad. I am so torn as to what to do for my own kids. Man this mothering business is hard. Happy Belated anniversary by the way!

Someone linked to this blog long ago and said they did home-preschool. Here is the post I went to. There hasn’t been as much schooling related links recently but if you start with this one and go backwards there are a few good ideas!

I have no advice for you on this. But, I totally respect anyone who home schools. I don’t even have the patience to help Addie with her homework. You go girl!

We’re in the same boat. I’m still trying to decide on a program for Ava. I really want an all-in-one kit to keep it simple and on somewhat of a schedule. Right now, we’re just working on things here and there. I have been studying different themes on http://www.thehomeschoolmagazine.com/. Let me know if you decide on something too!

ABeka is good when they get older. Right now, I’m keeping Hannah’s K3 really casual. I got an all-in-one preschool workbook from Wal-Mart, of all places. We use that, letter magnets, her chalkboard, books, puzzles, her Awana book, and pretty much whatever else we find to work with any given day. At three, everything she does is a learning experience. Science is all around her, for example. She learns a lot from our day to day conversations. She already knows her colors and letters, so I’m working wtih her on reading and numbers. We’ll be adding skills like cutting and gluing pretty soon.
