You say leading, I say facilitating.

Tomorrow is the big day! We’re having Bible Study at my house. Actually, I shouldn’t really call it a Bible Study, since we aren’t studying straight from the Bible. We’re doing a book called Can Martha Have a Mary Christmas? I’m super excited and it seems like a great book. Like the awesome facilitator that I am, I haven’t read the entire thing yet, but so far so good.

I just typed up a quick little questionaire for the study. I’m such a geek, but I can’t help myself. I’m really praying that this goes well and that we can learn on how to really sit at Jesus’ feet this Christmas and focus on his birth, the love God has for us and not about what color ribbon to put on our packages (or am I the only one who worries about that?).

I don’t know about you guys, but I get STRESSED to the max for Christmas and it’s my own fault. I want everyone to have such an enjoyable time. I want the lights to be perfect, I want Amy Grant playing in the background 24/7, I want the fireplace on all day, the stockings hung just right and the stinking wireless candles to come on ALL at the SAME time in my windows. I want to go to Opryland Hotel to look at the lights, I want to go Christmas caroling and drive around and look at all the pretty lights. I want to make cookies with my daughters and I want to get my Mother In Law’s award winning fudge recipe to turn out right! And, most importantly, I want to teach my daughters what Christmas is truly about. I want them to be amazed at Jesus’ birth. I want them to sing Happy Birthday and to be thankful for this day. I don’t want them to focus on what they’ve been given from us or our families, but I want them to focus on what He has given them, what He has given us.

What is your favorite thing about Christmas? What do you love the most about the season?

That is so exciting about the study. I hope you all enjoy the time together studying and growing. I will be praying for you tonight! You will do GREAT!

My favorite thing about Christmas right now is just simply liking it. Until last year, the holidays depressed me in a way that I can’t describe. And not just b/c it was the anniversary of learning that I was about to lose my sweet mama. No, I’d hated it since I was 12 and my very close cousin died during the holidays. But, the Lord has answered my prayers and helped me to like this holiday. I’m so thankful. Ask me next year what I like the best. This year, I’m just learning!

That said, I hate that I can’t join you tomorrow night for the book study. I really wish it would work out for me but this just isn’t the season!

Ok….thing 1. I am really excited for you about the bible study :) It really sounds fun! thing 2. about the Christmas stress. it sounds oh so very familiar. I am a control freak about most things. Christmas is no exception. Sounds like you may be a bit anal retentive as well ;) I’m just sayin’

Jill you’re going to do great tonight! It sounds like an interesting study and I really wish I could just blow off school and come ;)

I LOVE Christmas! All the warm cinnamony scents, decorating, and shopping. We all need that reminder to not get too wrapped up in it all and just celebrate Jesus.

sounds like a great book…i’m sure you will “facilitate” it well!

my favorite thing about christmas is just seeing the kids get it more and more each year. it is the same thing with their birthdays each year, but obviously having the “get” christmas is a wee bit more important.

your excitement for the holiday is contagious!

I wish I could be there at your study, I know you’ll do fine!
I love all the things about Christmas you mentioned. I started thinking months ago about how I couldn’t wait to see what lights would be on the houses on Grand, my favorite street here. I love getting to light my favorite holiday-scented candles. I started reminding Ava what it was really all about the other day, and she seemed to understand somewhat. I know next year she will even more.
